“Uncertainty”: Photo Exhibition on Missing in Mariupol

There is no verified number of missing people in Ukraine. The ICRC estimates that around 1,500 persons have gone missing since the beginning of the conflict in 2014. What’s for sure is that each and every one is a tragedy. Shown in Severodonetsk, Sloviansk, Odesa, and Kyiv and soon in Vienna, Prague, and Brussels, this exhibition is devoted to missing persons and their families on both sides of the contact line. Uncertainty as to whether their relatives are alive or dead causes families intense stress and suffering. There is an urgent need to find answers. Families have the right to know.

The exhibition of Brendan Hoffman’s photos together with the stories of the families who are searching for their relatives is on display from 12 until 26 September in Mariupol in the Drama Theatre public garden.
